Relationship Violence Prevention Month

Relationship Violence Prevention Month

Relationship Violence Prevention Month

Every year, in October, we recognize Relationship Violence Prevention Month (RVPM), a national campaign dedicated to raise awareness about domestic and dating violence, educate our communities, and create spaces to talk about ending interpersonal violence in our campus communities. We invite all members of our community to become involved with RVPM by participating in one or all of the following events:

Schedule of Events

Monday, October 2 – First day of RVPM

Access the zoom and/or teams virtual backgrounds for RVPM 2023 online. Make a plan for attending events throughout the month.

The Clothesline Project is an ongoing initiative through the month. If you would like to share your story anonymously to be added to the project, complete this form

Tuesday, October 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 – VAV Trauma Informed Yoga

This weekly yoga workshop is for students who have experienced trauma and are looking for support with their own healing experience.

Trauma-informed yoga focuses on themes of grounding, choice, connection with one's body, trauma/stress response and regulation. Through the practice, participants will also learn mindfulness skills to practice being in the present moment with intention.

No prior yoga experience is necessary. Open to all fitness and ability levels. This is not a traditional therapy group, and you do not need to be a CMHC client to enroll. Click below to receive more information about this workshop.

Wednesday, October 4 & 11, Thursday, October 19 & 26 – Tabling on Speedway

Come visit the Title IX Office and partnering student organizations to learn more about the events of the month, how to support a survivor, and how to access campus-wide resources.

Thursday, October 19 – “Go Purple Day”

This day was created to wear purple to show solidarity with survivors of domestic and dating violence. Purple is the color of domestic violence awareness.

Thursday, October 26 – Breaking the Silence

Breaking the Silence provides an opportunity to connect with campus resources, listen to speakers, engage with our campus community partners, and support survivors of relationship violence. This year, Breaking the Silence will be held from 6-9pm at the Welch Hall (WEL) Courtyard. If you are interested in participating in the survivor speak out at Breaking the Silence, please complete this form

Tuesday, October 31 – No Tricks, All Treats Halloween Tabling

Join the Title IX Office and Not On My Campus on Speedway as we hand out candy and share information about consent!

This is also a good time to learn how to respond in a supportive way to someone who discloses they are a survivor of interpersonal violence (including domestic and dating violence), and increase your knowledge of the support and resources UT offers to all affected parties.

The Title IX Office offers year-round workshops including developing healthy workplace and personal boundaries, understanding supportive measures, or addressing alleged acts of retaliation in the workplace. You can request a workshop for your organization, college, school, or unit.

If you witness or become aware of a Title IX matter, respond compassionately and empathetically, and, if you are an employee of UT, report all that you know to the Title IX Office online at titleix.utexas.edu, via email at titleix@austin.utexas.edu or by calling 512-471-0419.

The Title IX Office offers support and resources to all students, faculty, and staff.
